Arizona troopers find 32 violations on oversized load ‘trying to squeak by’ on I-10

Arizona commercial vehicle troopers discovered dozens of violations after halting a truck hauling an oversized load.

On May 28, 2026, an Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Highway Patrol trooper with the Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit stopped an oversized load coming from Mesa, headed to Tonopah, after the “trooper noticed there were no lights on the trailer, and no flags.”

Officials said that the driver was “trying to squeak by after morning rush hour on I-10 just east of the tunnel.”

AZDPS said that an inspection revealed a total of 32 violations, including:

“We really can’t make this one up…” AZDPS said.

Troopers said that the truck driver was issued “numerous citations” and that the vehicle was towed.

“No CDL + No insurance + No brakes + No permit = No oversize load hauling. Oversize loads are a strategic move with every safety precaution in mind. For the safety of everyone on the road (and you and your property), please do not try to do this yourself,” officials said.
