Truck Driver Movies: Deadhead Miles (1972)

Published:

1972 Deadhead Miles Trucker MovieHey truck drivers, we’re back with another episode that features a link to a free movie that we scour the web for week after week. We call it Truck Driver Movies, and we know you’ll love it.

This week, it’s a film made in the early 70s written by famous director Terrence Malick. You may know his name from hit movies like the WWII epic Thin Red Line. The film was about soldiers of C Company, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division and their face off with Japanese soldiers at Guadalcanal.

Deadhead Miles is sort of a departure for Malick, as it’s less serious and more of a quirky cult comedy that features Alan Arkin as Cooper, a trucker working for a shady outfit who picks up a stolen rig full of who-knows-what and heads off for who-knows-where.

Lacking a traditional plot, Cooper’s encounters with a bizarre cadre of outcasts are presented as a series of vignettes. Among those he meets are characters played by Bruce Bennett, Hector Elizondo, Charles Durning, Paul Benedict and Loretta Swit (M*A*S*H).

If you have a Netflix account, you can stream Deadhead Miles to your mobile device through their iOS app, or Android app. Otherwise, you can see it from a playlist at YouTube below. If you can’t get the video to play, just visit the original playlist page here.
