The EPA and the Wisconsin State Energy Office are offering grants to help drivers and carriers with the financial burden of purchasing and installing APUs.
The grant program began in 2009, when the Wisconsin State Energy Office received the EPA Region 5’s Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative Award for Leadership.
To date, the Department has helped carriers purchase 1,594 idling reduction devices.
Under the grant, the Department provides grants to owner operators and carriers who are domiciled in Wisconsin with the purchase and instillation cost of idling reduction units for newer trucks. Awards are chosen randomly via a computer-generated lottery system.
Grant winners will receive reimbursement of up to 50% of the cost of the equipment and instillation. One million dollars in grants will be awarded this year.
