Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department Has ‘Critical Need for Truck Drivers’

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) this week announced they’ll be hosing a job fair on Friday, November 14 at department’s central office which is located on the Baseline Road Interchange on I-30 in Little Rock.

The job fair will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

According to a press release, the job fair will focus on the Department’s ‘District Six,’ which includes Garland, Hot Spring, Lonoke, Prairie, Pulaski and Saline Counties. The Department hopes to hire 40 people who can be on the job by early December.

“We are in the process of hiring about 200 new employees statewide, but we have a critical immediate need for truck drivers in Central Arkansas,” said AHTD Director Scott Bennett. “Winter is almost upon us and we want to have as many drivers trained as we possibly can before it arrives.”

Bennett says that while the drivers will be hired for the winter, their job will not be part-time, seasonal or temporary.

“We’re not just looking for warm bodies. We’re looking for long-term, permanent employees. These are year-round positions that offer the potential for growth, a full benefits package, and an excellent retirement plan.”

During the job fair, stations will be set up where prospective employees can receive information about the Department and specific information about available positions.

A Department employee will be available to asset job seekers with the application process.

“While the application information is being screened and verified, the applicant will be interviewed by a District Six Supervisor. The Department hopes to be able to start making conditional offers of employment either late Friday afternoon or Monday morning,” the ASHTD states.

If you don’t already have a CDL, new hires will immediately begin CDL training, and training time will be paid for, however, the employee is responsible for paying for testing fees.

“We’re very excited about the opportunities we have to offer to qualified applicants,” Bennett noted.
