Trooper In A Truck: Ohio Police Use 18 Wheeler In 2 Day Truck Enforcement Blitz

Published:

Today is the first day of a two day enforcement blitz targeting truck drivers in Ohio.

The Ohio State Patrol and Akron police are working together during the enforcement blitz which they say is designed to reduce the number of commercial vehicle crashes.

Police will be patrolling Interstates 70 and 75 as well as Interstate 76 and 77. While police say they will be focusing on commercial vehicles, they say they will also be paying close attention to passenger vehicles driving around commercial vehicles. They plan to aggressively enforce driving behaviors that lead to crashes, including speed, following too closely, improper passing and improper lane use.

Police have also teamed up with trucking company J Rayl Transportation as part of their Trooper in a Truck campaign. Troopers will ride in 18 wheelers to spot unsafe driving behavior from passenger vehicle drivers. They will be looking for speeding, texting, and other unsafe driving behaviors that lead to crashes.

Police are also using a plane to help with the enforcement efforts for both commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles.

So far today, over 30 drivers have been pulled over and ticketed. Tickets range from $100 to $300.
