Truckers Blamed For I-29 Pile Up
Four truckers have been cited for their role in a 12 vehicle pile up involving 5 trucks and 2 patrol cars on I-29 in North Dakota on Monday afternoon.
The crash happened in whiteout conditions around 1:45 p.m near Bowesmont when an 18 wheeler rear ended a passenger vehicle that stopped on the interstate. Pembina County deputies were on scene responding to the crash when another truck hit one of the police cruisers parked on the shoulder.
Three other trucks became involved in a chain reaction crash after the truck hit the cruiser. In all, 12 vehicles were involved in the pile up.
Four people were injured, but none of the injuries were serious.
The Highway Patrol said the pile up should never have happened and blamed drivers for ignoring weather conditions and travel alerts. Four of the truck drivers involved were cited for care required.
The motorist who stopped on the interstate has not yet been cited, but the Highway Patrol says that the pile up is still under investigation and more citations are possible.
