The Wyoming Highway Patrol says that it will be increasing enforcement on Teton Pass in response to an increasing number of reports of semis violating seasonal weather closures.
Wyoming Highway 22 through Teton Pass is closed to truck traffic from November 15 through April 1 every year, but newly installed motion scale technology has shown troopers that many trucks are not heeding this regulation.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol says that it will be bringing in troopers from other divisions to help with the increased truck enforcement effort. Increased patrols will start immediately.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation will also be adding new signs to try to keep truckers off of Teton Pass.
Teton Pass has some of the steepest grades in the nation, making it especially dangerous for overweight trucks.
Currently, the fine for violating the seasonal truck restrictions is $420, but community leaders are considering raising the fine to further discourage truck traffic.
