NHP Out In Force For “Badge On Board” Campaign

The Nevada Highway Patrol will be conducting a two day enforcement campaign to encourage commercial vehicle highway safety.

Officers from NHP will be conducting the two day campaign April 19 – 20. They say that they will be focusing on unsafe driving behaviors made by both passenger and commercial vehicle drivers.

NHP officers participating in the Badge on Board program will be on the lookout for the following unsafe driving behaviors:

According to NHP’s Lieutenant Roy Baughman, “Our goal is not writing tickets, it’s keeping everyone safe on our roadways. Failing to yield, unsafe lane changes, speeding and driving in a truck driver’s blind spot is not just illegal, it can kill you.

This week’s Badge on Board enforcement campaign is a follow up to an event held in March during which NHP officers rode along in the cab of semis in order to get a trucker’s eye view of bad driving behavior truck drivers see every day.

According to a Badge on Board fact sheet, “Passenger vehicle drivers cause or contribute to 81 percent of the roadway fatalities involving trucks. Truck driver’s cause or contribute to 26 percent of the fatalities.

Badge on Board officers will also be handing out educational materials like the flier below to educate motorists on how to share the road safety with semis.
