VIDEO: You Couldn’t Put A Driver In This (Ominous Looking) Truck If You Wanted To

Take a look at these newly released images of Einride’s T-Pod truck, but don’t even think about driving it, because there’s literally no place for a human driver.

Zero Emissions, Zero Driver, By 2020

Swedish startup Einride released images and video of its totally autonomous electric T-Pod prototype and says that the trucks should be up and running by 2020.

Many other companies are working on autonomous truck technology, but those companies have all chosen to keep things like a windshield, a brake pedal, and a driver’s seat so that a human could take over if he wanted to. The T-Pod is (somewhat alarmingly) completely cab-free.

Without, you know, having to provide space for a human driver, the trucks are only 23 feet long and when fully loaded will weigh 20 tons. The trucks can either run autonomously or they can be operated via remote control.
