A truck driver says that a “glitch” in his GPS system is the reason that his truck became so remarkably stuck under an overpass in Massachusetts.
The incident took place on September 13 around 7:30 a.m. on Prospect Street in Chicopee.
According to a report from Western Mass News, the truck driver was using cell phone GPS when he got stuck. The driver reportedly said that the GPS system did have the capability to warn about low clearances, but that it had some sort of glitch and no longer worked once the truck was off of the highway.
No one was hurt during the incident.
Prospect Street was closed for hours while the truck was removed.
This particular overpass is a frequent target for truck strikes, According to the Chicopee Police Department, the problem is with drivers, not the overpass itself: “This is not a street or city issue; it’s an operator issue. It’s clearly marked.”
