On Sunday night a Florida trooper was shocked when a routine traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Madison County turned into much bigger bust.
A trooper pulled over a semi truck driven by Hector Lazo Hernandez, 28, around 8 p.m. after the trailer’s taillight was reportedly darkened and the tag light was missing altogether.
The trooper searched the trailer and found vacuum bags filled with what looked like marijuana, according to FHP. Six large boxes and five large garbage bags were retrieved, totaling 239 pounds of marijuana. The trooper also found 16 debit cards Hernandez had in a toiletry bag.
“Trooper Young also noticed several indicators of possible drug trafficking,” said Major Chris Blackmon of the Florida Highway Patrol. “Trooper Young found multiple vacuum bags of a green leafy substance, which appeared to be marijuana.”
Hernandez had given consent for the search.
Upon the discovery of the drugs, Hernandez was arrested on charges of drug trafficking.
