1 killed in 29 vehicle pileup caused by Nebraska dust storm

One person was killed and fifteen others injured in a multi-vehicle crash triggered by a dust storm in Nebraska yesterday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 5:15 p.m. on I-80 just west of York, Nebraska.

As high winds kicked up dust and created nearly zero-visibility conditions, 29 vehicles were involved in a chain reaction collision.

One person died in the crash. Fifteen others were injured and transported to the hospital.

The pileup shut down a two mile stretch of I-80 from Exit 332 to Exit 330. All lanes of I-80 were reopened by approximately 8 p.m.

Police are still investigating the crash.

Forecasters predict similar high winds in Nebraska today and warn that another zero-visibility dust storm could be in the works.
