Parts of an eastern Iowa city were under several feet of flood water yesterday after a major levee breach yesterday, forcing evacuations.
The flood emergency happened around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, in downtown Davenport, according to the Weather Channel.
A temporary HESCO barrier meant to hold back the Mississippi River failed as the river rose, causing flooding as deep as 6 feet in some parts of Davenport. The sudden flooding left many people trapped in their homes and vehicles. Rescue crews evacuated some trapped people with boats.
No injuries were reported as a result of the flooding.

As of Wednesday morning, the flood waters have started to recede, but many roadways remain under water.
Governor Kim Reynolds issued a statement about the flooding on Tuesday: “Flooding will likely worsen tomorrow so please remain vigilant, follow directions from local officials and law enforcement, and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.”
City officials are asking both locals and travelers to avoid downtown Davenport as recovery efforts continue. The Davenport Police Department urges drivers not to attempt to drive through flood waters.
