The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office issued a correction on Monday after reporting four deaths in the pileup. The current number of deaths caused in the pileup is listed at 3.

Authorities in Wyoming have confirmed that four people died in a serious chain reaction crash involving trucks and passenger vehicles on I-80 on Sunday evening.

On Monday morning, the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that at least four people died in a pileup crash involving about 100 vehicles that occurred on westbound I-80 at mile marker 184 between Rawlins and Wamsutter, the Casper Star-Tribune reports.

Police also said that a second pileup involving 40 vehicles happened around the same time on eastbound I-80 at mile marker 180. One person was critically injured but there are no reported fatalities from the crash at this time.

Both crashes occurred during winter weather conditions with slick roadways and poor visibility.

So far, the Wyoming Highway Patrol has released few details about the crash, but several news outlets report that around 50 vehicles collided during winter weather conditions.

As of Monday morning, officials have not released information about possible fatalities or injuries.

I-80 remains closed westbound from Rawlins to Wamsutter and eastbound from Rock Springs to Creston Junctions. The Wyoming Department of Transportation says that I-80 could remain shut down until Wednesday.
