POLICE: ‘Medical episode’ likely responsible for fatal head-on collision between semi, car

A motorist is dead after colliding head-on with a semi truck during what police are calling a ‘medical episode.’

The accident happened on Tuesday, September 29th at around 8:18 a.m. in Teller County, Colorado.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a car was traveling along Highway 24 between Woodland Park and Divide when it suddenly left its lane and collided with an oncoming semi truck.

The motorist died at the scene, but the truck driver was unhurt. Police say a medical episode is ‘likely to blame’ for the incident reported KKTV.

Officials are now conducting an autopsy on the motorist to determine whether the victim was killed in the crash or died due to the suspected medical episode.

The westbound lanes were shut down for several hours as emergency crews cleared the wreckage, causing delays and forcing traffic to alternate in the eastbound lanes. The wreck has since been cleared and all lanes have been reopened.
