The New York State Police say that a truck driver who went astray due to construction uprooted a large tree and struck power lines on Monday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. on November 9 in the town of Chenango, New York.
Troopers were called to Trafford Road for reports of damage caused by a truck.
“An investigation revealed that a tractor trailer turned north off of Trafford Road onto Councilman Road because of road construction on Upper Front Street. Once the driver turned onto Councilman Road the tractor trailer struck and uprooted a large tree. The tree became lodged in between the tractor and trailer. The driver continued on Councilman Road and turned onto Savitch Road, striking numerous power lines and damaging several power hookups to homes in the neighborhood. No injuries were reported,” said New York State Police.
Troopers did not indicate whether charges were filed.
Following the incident, the New York State Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit reminded truckers that “tractor trailers over 65-feet in length and/or 53-foot trailers are limited to the roadways that they can travel on because of their size. The Troop C Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit is aggressive in their enforcement of these regulations to help prevent more accidents like this occurring.”
