CBP intercepts trucks smuggling over 480 pounds of hard narcotics

U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Laredo Port of Entry seized hard narcotics valued at $6.5 million at the World Trade Bridge.

The seizures were a part of two separate, unrelated enforcement actions.

The first seizure occurred Monday, Nov. 23, when CBP officers assigned to the cargo facility encountered a stake bed truck manifesting evaporator machines from Mexico.

According to a news release, a search resulted in the discovery of seven packages containing 226 pounds of alleged methamphetamine within the shipment.  The narcotics have an estimated value of approximately $4.5 million.

The second narcotics interception took place on Wednesday, Nov. 25, when CBP officers referred a 2003 International tractor hauling a flatbed trailer carrying a shipment of marble for a secondary inspection

After inspection of the shipment, 119 packages were discovered to contain approximately 257 pounds of suspected cocaine. The cocaine has a total estimated value of nearly $2 million.

The narcotics combined have an estimated street value of $6.5 million.

The narcotics were seized by CBP in both shipments. Both cases have been turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.
