Major Kentucky highway interchange expecting 12 hour closure following tanker truck wreck

An overturned tanker truck led to the closure of a major northern Kentucky highway interchange on Monday.

The accident happened on December 21st at around 12:47 p.m. and is blocking all lanes of  I-275 eastbound and westbound collector ramp to I-71/75 southbound. The area is not expected to be reopened for traffic until around midnight on Monday or very early Tuesday morning.

According to Fox 19 News, the tanker overturned near mile marker 184.3 and was hauling gasoline. The driver was not hurt in the accident. It is not clear what caused the rig to overturn.

Those needing to use the westbound ramp are encouraged to detour north on I-71/75 to Buttermilk Pike at Exit 186 and then to re-enter I-71/75 southbound. For those looking to use the eastbound ramp, exit I-275 at Exit 4 for KY 212/Airport Connector is suggested. Then take the Airport Connector to Donaldson Road to then re-enter I-71/75 southbound.

The incident has not directly impacted the Brent Spence Bridge closure-related detour from I-71/75 northbound to I-275 eastbound, reported ABC 9.
