Smugglers Notch reopens — but not for truckers, Vermont troopers warn
On Tuesday, Vermont Route 108 reopened for the season, but truck drivers are being remind that they are not allowed on the steep and curvy roadway.
Vermont transportation officials reopened Route 108 (known as Smugglers Notch) between Cambridge and Stowe on April 13.
The narrow, winding roadway is closed to all traffic each winter.
Truck drivers are never allowed on Smugglers Notch, but many still find themselves stuck on the notorious stretch of road each year in spite of several signs warning that trucks aren’t allowed.
Vermont State Police used the occasion on Tuesday to remind truckers to steer clear.

Not only will getting stuck on Smugglers Notch cost you some time, it will also hit you in the wallet — the citation for a first offense is $1,197. The fine for truckers who are caught on Smugglers Notch more than once is $2,347.
