A man was arrested Monday after allegedly trying to steal a semi truck armed with only a BB gun.
The incident happened on December 13th in Kennewick, Washington at around 12:45 a.m.
According to YakTriNews, a truck driver called police to report that someone was trying to break into his truck in the 1100 block of Columbia Center Blvd. near Target. Police arrived “almost immediately” and witnessed the suspect pointing what appeared to be a gun at the truck driver.
Officers then instructed the suspect to drop the weapon, which he did before trying to flee the scene on foot. Officers quickly caught the man, and recognized him as a man with mental health issues that they had dealt with in the past.
Police soon realized that the gun the suspect had been using was a BB gun.
The suspect was then booked into the Benton County Jail for first degree assault, first degree robbery, and on a previous warrant. His name has not been released, but police say that he is receiving mental health treatment.
