Police shoot at suspect in stolen big rig who tried to ram ‘multiple innocent motorists’

Authorities in Georgia are investigating the officer-involved shooting involving a suspect in a stolen semi truck in Coweta County.

Police say that the incident began around 12:25 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, when the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to a stolen semi truck on I-85 that was being electronically tracked.

CCSO deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect refused, “and in the ensuing pursuit, swerved to strike multiple innocent motorists.”

Due to the public threat to the lives of civilians, CCSO deputies opened fire on the truck to disable the vehicle and end the pursuit.

The male suspect was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition is unknown, according to a Coweta County Sheriff’s Office’s news release.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will be investigating the incident.

Northbound I-85 remains closed, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
