Support grows for ELD Mandate delay bill in House

Published:

A growing number of lawmakers in the House of Representatives have shown support for a recently introduced bill that would delay the compliance date for the Electronic Logging Device Mandate by two years.

House Support For ELD Delay Bill Doubles In Less Than A Month

The bill was introduced in the House on July 18 by Texas Representative Brian Babin. H.R. 3282, also referred to as the the ELD Extension Act of 2017, would push back the December 18, 2017 compliance date by two years. Babin says that the proposed delay would provide relief for small trucking companies and owner operators who “don’t want the burden, expense and uncertainty of putting one of these devices into every truck they own by the end of the year.”

Little news has been offered up about the progress of the bill, but support for the legislation has been steadily growing. As of July 27, the bill had only 21 co-sponsors. Today, the number of co-sponsors for the bill has more than doubled to 43. Since the beginning of August, 8 Representatives have thrown their support behind the bill.

OOIDA has come out in full support of Bain’s proposed legislation. Executive Vice President Todd Spencer writes, “We thank Rep. Babin for realizing the serious problems associated with implementation that can only be avoided by putting off the mandate.
