Trucking Economy Improving 2012

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, trucking companies added 10,200 new jobs in February 2012.  February represents the largest 1 month gain since February 2011.  More than 20,000 new trucking jobs have been added in the last three months.

Payroll is up by 47,300 or 3.7% from February 2011.  Employment is up 97,300 jobs but remains below the 121,900 jobs at the peak in January 2007.

The BLS numbers for trucking reflect all payroll employment in for-hire trucking. They do not include truck driver for a private fleet or other trucking-related jobs. The numbers also do not reflect the total amount of hiring, they only reflect the number of employees paid during a specified payroll period during the month.
