A forty-two-year-old Leesburg, Florida man is being accused of soliciting truck drivers for drug trafficking.
According to WDBO, Santos Gomez approached a truck driver and recruited him to transport $20 million in marijuana.
“The informant happened to be a truck driver in Lake County, so investigators followed as he drove a truckload of drugs to Chicago,” WDBO reported.
Gomez paid the driver $25,000 and checked-in with the driver as he hauled the load.
When the truck driver arrived in Chicago to deliver the load of marijuana, investigators discovered the marijuana was well hidden within the cargo.
Investigators have not released how many are involved in the drug ring, but say that three other drivers are being charged with trafficking.
Gomez is being extradited to Texas to stand trial.
