Hotel Voucher

In theory, this sounds like an awesome gift! At the end of a particularly long and stressful day, a big bed, a free private shower, wifi, and cable sound like a dream come true to a driver. BUT – as many of us well know, sometimes a hotel stay can quickly turn into a nightmare. You’ll want to do your research and consider the following details when choosing a hotel for your driver:

• Is the hotel a national chain? – If it’s not are there a multitude of locations in the region your driver hauls in?
• Are they reputable? – Check online reviews, and choose biased on your personal experience with the hotel.
• Are they (for the most part) located near major interstates and highways?
• Do they allow truck parking?
• If applicable, are pets allowed?

Truck Stop or Restaurant Gift Card

A tasty warm meal at a sit-down restaurant could be just the thing to turn a rough day into a much better evening. Even a snack or a cold drink on you at your driver’s next stop would be much appreciated! Just remember that when choosing a truck stop, filling station, or restaurant – you’ll want to consider the accessibility of the establishment or chain to make sure your gift doesn’t send the recipient too far off of the beaten path.

Stocked Shower Duffel Bag

It sounds pretty simple – but it’s an awfully thoughtful (and affordable) gesture. Pick up a nice, solid-color duffle with a metal zipper (plastic ones wear out awfully quick!). All you’ll need to fill it up are a fluffy towel, shampoo & conditioner (or two-in-one), his favorite body wash or (bar soap with some Ziploc bags, if he prefers), deodorant, toothpaste, a new toothbrush – and maybe a new pair of shower sandals!

Truck Mattress

This gift idea is a little pricey – ranging in cost from $90-$390 at Truck Mattress. BUT – what an amazing gift, if this isn’t something that your driver has invested in already! A quality night’s sleep is vitally important to a driver, and helping them to achieve that is enormously thoughtful. If you’re not sure that you’d like to spend quite that much, but the idea strikes you – a memory foam or feather mattress topper or some soft sheets might be something to look into!

Seat Cushion

There’s a good chance that your driver may have already invested in a seat cushion to relieve pressure and to add a little more comfort to the ride. But if they haven’t, you might consider getting them one. Amazon is a great place to look for seat cushions!

Bucky

This might sound silly, but if your driver has a a microwave in his truck – the Bucky – a heatable compact wrap could be life changing! These little buggers are filled with buckwheat seeds which produce an incredible gentle and soothing moist heat. They’re excellent for soothing sore muscles, relieving aching joints, headaches, and arthritis! You can also chill them in the freezer for the opposite effect!

Snacks for the Road

You know what we’re taking about – the good stuff! Make up a care package for your driver and fill it with all their favorite treats – preferably things that don’t need to be refrigerated and that won’t melt in the summer heat. One of my personal favorite snacks to have out on the road is beef jerky – if you’re feeling fancy, Smoking Gun Jerky, Inc. would be a great place to order from. Their beef jerky is my all time favorite – and it blows the big name brands out of the water. Their jerky comes in a multitude of different flavors, heat levels, and marinades. Tequila Lime is my go-to flavor – but I’ve tried most of the others, they’re all fantastic!

Make A Meal

If your driver has a mini fridge, and access to a microwave – you might consider making a delicious mega meal next time he’s home. You could freeze the left overs or package them to be reheated the next day. There’s nothing better than hot home-cooked food – so send them off with some of the luxuries of home the next time they’re out on the road.

Satellite Radio Subscription

Many trucks are equipped with satellite radio, but not all companies pay for subscriptions for their drivers. If your driver loves to jam out on the drive – a year subscription to satellite radio (like, Sirius XM) might be the best possible gift you could give. Nothing sets the tone for a long drive like listening to the tunes you love most!
