Original Story:
According to Tulsa’s Fox 23, Tulsa, Oklahoma police are warning truck drivers about a Craigslist scam to get drivers’ personal information.
The Tulsa Police Department posted on the Financial Crimes Unit’s Facebook page about a Craigslist ad for truck drivers. The people who placed the ad for a driving job are stealing the identities of the drivers who respond to the ad, Fox 23 reported.
Tulsa police are warning drivers not to give out personal information. They said multiple drivers have fallen victim to the scam.
While the TPD believes that the ad originated in Tulsa, the advice goes for all internet job ads. Do not give out personal information without verifying the identity of the recruiter.
Update: Tulsa’s Fox 23 has reported the scam continues and police now have a suspect description. The con man is described as an older white male, 5’8″, with a “pot belly.” He drives a late 80s or early 90s gray Mercury Cougar with peeling paint and tinted windows.
