Mississippi Bill Would Allow Vision Impaired Drivers To Obtain CDL

Mississippi House Bill 441Last week, the hearing impaired community celebrated a victory– the DOT acknowledged that deaf or hard of hearing drivers are as safe as hearing drivers.

If Mississippi House Bill 441 passes, the vision impaired community will celebrate a victory of their own.  House Bill 441 would allow a person to obtain a CDL if they have impaired vision in one eye, as long as they have at least 20/40 vision in their other eye.

House Transportation Committee Chairman Robert Johnson says that 50 Mississippi truck drivers would be able to keep their commercial driver’s licenses if the bill passes.

House Bill 441 passed 111-5.  It will now move to the Senate for a vote.
