According to the Albany Tribune, on Thursday night, a truck driver was carjacked at knife-point in Wolf Creek, Oregon.
The driver complied with the knife-wielding carjacker, and the suspect fled in the truck.
At approximately 10:14 p.m., an Oregon State Patrol trooper spotted the stolen truck on northbound Interstate 5 near the 109 mile marker. The trooper attempted to pull over the truck, but the suspect refused to comply, so officers from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Roseburg Police Department placed spike strips across the highway, which successfully deflated some of the truck’s tires.
The tires began to shred but the truck kept going.
The Albany Tribune reported that suspect then began throwing items from the truck and “displaying obscene hand gestures.”
Now on bare rims, the chase was below 10 miles per hour.
After an hour-long chase, the truck went into the median and got stuck.
Police ordered the suspect to exit the tuck, but he refused to comply, so a police canine was sent to the truck. It was then the suspect, Travis Blondell, 36, exited the truck.
Police arrested Blondell and took him to a local hospital for dog bites. He was treated and released into police custody.
As it turns out, Blondell has a history with the police. A week prior to the carjacking, Blondell was arrested for assaulting a police officer.
He is being held at the Douglas County Jail for “Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, and misdemeanor Fail to Perform Duties of a Driver in an Accident. OSP will be submitting reports to the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office for Robbery in the First Degree. Additional charges may be pending,” the Albany Tribune reported.
