Nobody likes to take the time to drive through a toll booth, but some drivers will stop at nothing to skip them altogether. The two most notorious groups of toll trolls out on the road are people driving rental cars and truck drivers. Believe it or not, the12 biggest offenders when it comes to toll dodging in New Jersey, New York, & Pennsylvania are all large corporations. Check out this top 5 list ranging from well-known companies that owe big bucks to the downright weirdest ways to skip a toll.
1. Notorious Trucking Companies
Fusella Group, LLC – a New Jersey company owned by Gerardo and Vincent Fusella were found to have owed $154,055 in skipped tolls which grew to $271,725 after fines. Longhorn Transport LLC is also known for dodging tolls – their company (after 2,652 separate violations) accumulated $54,746 in missed tolls and $45,400 in fines.
5 other companies that owe the Port Authority big bucks include: Primetime Delivery LLC ran which through $53,239 in tolls, Velarde Transportation LLC through $34,474, Eke Trucking, Inc through $41,353, Sun Transport & Logistics Inc. through $40,809, and Jilver Munoz Transport Corp. through $36,067.2. Offending Rental Car Companies
Enterprise Rent-A-Car (which also operates Alamo Rent-A-Car & National Car Rental) is the most notorious company when it comes to dodging tolls. Rental car drivers amassed $166,924 in unpaid tolls, which ended up being $1,783,288 after adding in the fines. Enterprise has made an effort to get a handle on the issue by notifying local governments and encouraging them to work with their information processing center to properly route the fines. However, this will never completely fix the problem – as many states and countries hold rental car companies responsible for such fines. All Enterprise can truly do to combat the issue is to include fees to cover dodged tolls in their rental agreements.
Salem Truck Leasing, Inc. is also a known offender. Their renters racked up $104,336 in tolls, and $227,004 in fines. Intek Autoleasing, Inc. – known for leasing limousines was found to have skipped $77,953 in tolls and accumulated a total of $83,750 with fines.
3. Everything’s Bigger In Texas
Even skipped toll totals. According to Motramic, 22 Texans owe over $100,000 in unpaid tolls individually in 2012. The biggest individual toll troll award goes out to a woman from Dallas who ended up owing a grand total of $179,596.43 in tolls and fines. Ouch.
4. Call It What You Want
He calls it a prank, you can call it what you like. Josh Hargrave, a blogger for ZUG claims to have found a way around tolls in Boston, Massachusets. In his article entitled, The Turnpike Prank Josh experiments a little with his local tollbooth. It all started when he decided to short-change the booth’s money basket by three cents, paying 97 cents instead of $1.00. After realizing that there were no immediate consequences, he tossed seven cents into the basket short-changing the toll booth by 93 cents this time. Josh also branched out and experimented in a few different avenues that didn’t entail any sort of financial exchange. First, he decided to leave a $1.00 I.O.U. signed, “Mariah Carey,” followed by two 50 Cent stickers (which sort of equals $1.00 in a roundabout way), and lastly two oranges. Although he did pay both the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and Mariah Carey back with interest, we still feel bad for the poor soul that had to scrape the remains of those oranges out the toll booth basket.

Here it is, folks – the ultimate toll troll in all her glory! This unidentified woman pulls all the stops to dodge a toll fee! Watch as she rolls her empty vehicle to the booth, and proceeds to crawl over the top of her car with her hair in her face – (pretending to be a ghost) similar to the way the little girl emerges from the television in the 2002 thriller, The Ring. As a result, the attendant runs away in fear, and the woman successfully dodges the toll!
