We recently wrote about the importance of protecting your skin from harmful UV rays. But what about your eyes? Too much sun can be bad for them too.
Doctors caution that overexposure of UV light can cause eye diseases such as cataract, growths on the eye, and even eye cancer.
When you’re shopping for glasses with UV-protection, The Mayo Clinic suggests that you choose a pair that blocks 99 to 100 percent of both UVA and UVB rays.
For truck drivers on the market for more protective sun glasses, we recommend these stylish and effective Flying Fisherman Maverick Polarized Sunglasses.
Not only do they completely block out UV rays, they’ll take the squinting out of any sunny situation by eliminating almost all glare! They’re scratch resistant, lightweight and durable as well. You’ll be able to see better on the road, but if you accidentally leave them behind at a truck stop, its no big deal – they’re only $20!
You can order them online from Amazon and choose what color you want: smoke, amber or yell0w-amber.
REVIEWS:
Out of 433 reviews on Amazon, the glasses received 4.3 out of 5 stars. Here’s what some people had to say:
This set of shades is excellent, and for a cheap price! Upon recieving them, the weather turned bad with rain and all but the lenses work great. Driving with them off it was difficult to see other cars on the road, but with them on the outlines of vehicles were easily viewed. Polarization of lenses are great also. (Amber lenses) – JKrei
These shades are great for cycling on a cloudy day. They are light, fit snugly, and give off an amber color so they do provide a little shading while protecting your eyes from the wind, especially on a cold day. My only complaint about the product is that these are actually quite big and I’ve got a large head but that is just me being picky. Aside from that, these are a good pair of affordable sunglasses that I would highly recommend. – Gabe in Nash
I really like these glasses for a lot of reasons, they’re nice and dark, comfortable and all that. However, the strength of the lenses is what prompted this review. I was shooting a scoped rifle for the first time, and held the scope much too close to my eye, basically touching. The recoil drove the scope straight into the lens, I ended up needing stitches for a big cut above my eyebrow, but if the lens had shattered I would have been fishing glass out of my eye instead of getting stitches. So in addition to being nice glasses, they really do protect your eyes. – Terry
Works good, but I worry about the construction
Works good, but I worry about the construction. There is only one tiny screw holding the lens to the frame! – J. Mason
Flying Fisherman Maverick Polarized Sunglasses
I’ll admit the frames are obviously not the highest grade of materials. For luxury frames, you’ll need to spend a few more dollars. But, these frames are very lightweight and quite comfortable. What impresses me most is the quality of the polarized lenses. These are the real thing! The clarity is remarkable and I now realize that “polarized” lenses in drugstore sunglasses are inferior. After only a few seconds in bright sunlight, I honestly cannot tell I’m even wearing them. They deliver a literally flawless field of view and provide crisp image definition. I can only hope they remain unscratched, because I really feel like I scored with this purchase! – J. Meeks
