A truck driver lost his life early this morning when he was hit by another semi while trying to check on the motorist who rear ended him.
The incident happened at 2:30 a.m. on I-85 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Police say that during the first collision, a silver Acura rear ended a semi. The truck came to a stop on the right shoulder while the Acura stopped on the left shoulder. The truck driver got out of his rig and was walking on the interstate to reach the Acura and check on its driver.
While the trucker was walking in the right lane of I-85, a second semi struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Acura driver and the truck driver were both transported to the hospital.
Police are still investigating the cause of the initial rear end crash.
I-85 North was closed for hours but reopened around 5 a.m.
