A trucker is in critical condition after being shot in the face on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago late last night.
The shooting happened shortly before midnight in the northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway near 95th Street. Police say that a suspect fired shots into the truck’s cab, hitting the 68 year old truck driver in the mouth. The driver’s side window was shattered.
Other drivers saw the truck swerving after the truck driver was shot and called police.
The trucker was transported to the hospital, where he is in critical condition.
No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Police are unsure whether the truck driver was the shooter’s target or if the shooter was aiming for someone else and hit the truck driver accidentally. They are hunting for the gunman, but they have not released a description of the suspect or his vehicle.
A portion of the Dan Ryan Expressway was shut down for hours as police scoured the area for bullet casings. Police did discover at least one casing. All lanes reopened around 4:35 a.m.
Police say that this is the third highway shooting in the Chicago area this week.
