The crash happened just before 6 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-5 at the Viaduct Bridge.

Trucker Swerves To Avoid Pickup, Partially Crashes Off Overpass

According to the California Highway Patrol, a truck driver was attempting to merge onto northbound I-5 from the Crosstown Freeway, at the same time that a pickup truck was attempting to exit the interstate onto Pershing Avenue.

The trucker swerved to avoid crashing into the pickup truck and his rig wound up going through the center divide and coming to a stop hanging off of the I-5 overpass.

The truck driver managed to make his way out of the dangling truck. He wasn’t seriously injured but was taken to the hospital for treatment.

No other injuries were reported.

The pickup driver stayed at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol says that three lanes of northbound I-5 will be closed for hours for cleanup and removal of the truck. Caltrans estimates that all lanes of the interstate will reopen around 1 p.m.
