Maine State Police are calling a milk truck driver a hero after a fatal crash on I-295 in Freeport on Saturday.
Trucker Crashes To Avoid Hitting Out Of Control Car
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-295 around 10 a.m. Seventy year old truck driver Richard Clark was hauling thousands of gallons of milk in a tanker when a passenger vehicle spun out in front of him.
MSP says that Clark swerved to avoid hitting the car and crashed into a guardrail, flipping his truck in the median. He died instantly in the crash.
The driver of the car, 27 year old Ashley Williams, suffered only minor injuries.
“He Definitely Saved My Daughter’s Life
Clark’s daughter Karen said that truckers “do what they have to do” when confronted with a choice like the one her father faced.
Williams’ mother said of Clark’s sacrifice, “God bless him. He definitely saved my daughter’s life.”
No charges have been filed. Police are still investigating what caused the car to spin out. Maine State Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them at 207-657-3030.
