The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-495 around 10:30 a.m. when three semi trucks collided. A passenger vehicle was also reportedly involved in the crash. The crash left the cab of one of the trucks partially hanging off of the overpass. Police are still working to determine the cause of the crash, though rainy weather is thought to be a contributing factor.

Two of the truck drivers involved suffered minor injuries. One other person involved in the crash suffered more serious but non life threatening injuries.
One of the trucks was reportedly leaking fuel. A hazmat team responded to the scene.
The crash shut down southbound I-495 for hours, but at last report one lane of traffic had reopened. Heavy traffic backups have been reported in the area. It isn’t clear when the interstate will fully reopen.
