Port Authority: Trucker Owed $235K In Tolls

A Staten Island trucker was arrested after Port Authority Police discovered that his CDL was suspended and that his company owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in E-Z Pass tolls and fees.

At 11:30 a.m. last Thursday, Port Authority police stopped a semi on the Outerbridge Toll Plaza after they noticed that the driver had not paid the toll in the dedicated E-Z Pass lane. Officers soon discovered that the truck’s driver, 60 year old Robert Pearson, had 29 suspensions on his CDL for 9 separate incidents.

The truck owner, JMS Consulting, was found to have 1,742 unpaid toll violations and fees. The total of the toll violations came to $234,750.

Pearson’s truck was placed out of service and impounded after inspectors discovered 11 safety violations.

Pearson was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, obstruction government administration, and petit larceny.
