A runaway teenager from Ohio is safely in police custody after he was caught hitching a ride through multiple states on the catwalk of a semi truck.
The missing seventeen year old Shelby, Ohio, resident was discovered yesterday morning when Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Inspector Michael Buckley spotted something unusual on a truck at the I-65 scale house near Seymour.
Buckley spotted the teen “riding on the catwalk of the semi between the cab and the trailer,” according to a news release from the Indiana State Police. Buckley asked the truck driver to stop at the weigh station while he called in trooper to assist with the teen.
The runaway attempted to hide from the troopers but was eventually taken into police custody. He was taken to the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center and will eventually be returned to Ohio.
The Indiana State Police believe that the teen had climbed onto the truck in Kentucky before he was discovered.
The truck driver was not aware of the stowaway on his truck and will not face any charges.
