It happened again: 5th spool rolls onto Houston highway in last 2 months

For what feels like the hundredth time since late October, a large industrial spool fell off of a truck and rolled onto Houston highways — this time reportedly causing a crash.

Local news station ABC13 reports that new images of a fifth runaway spool captured in the West Little York and the North Beltway area appeared on social media on Thursday evening. The motorist who captured the photo said that a blue truck crashed into the spool after it came loose.

If you feel as if you’ve seen headlines about loose spools on Houston highway before, you’re absolutely correct. Five spools have fallen off trucks in four separate incidents since October 25.

Spool #1 was spotted rolling down Houston’s East Freeway on October 25.

On November 12, Spools #2 and #3 came off a semi truck and menaced drivers on I-10.

The Texas Department of Transportation has admitted that overheight loads are a major problem on Houston highways.
