I-40 in downtown Nashville shutdown for oversized load wedged under overpass

The truck is very stuck -- avoid the area.

Tennessee transportation officials say that a stretch of I-40 eastbound will be closed until about midnight after a truck hauling a piece of Caterpillar equipment became wedged under an overpass in downtown Nashville.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) reported the incident in the early afternoon.

From TDOT: “Truck carrying oversize load hit 40E overpass, wedged under bridge. Ramp from 65N to 40W closed. 40E at exit 210 closed due to bridge damage. Bridge inspectors assessing scene.”

No injuries have been reported.

I-40 eastbound is closed at Exit 210 and is expected to stay that way until 11:30 p.m. or later. Drivers in the area should expect major traffic delays.
