Motorist killed after crashing off overpass into the path of a tractor trailer

Published:

Indiana State Police (ISP) are still working to determine why a car driver crashed off an overpass, causing a deadly two-vehicle crash in Indianapolis this morning.

The crash was reported around 10 a.m. on I-465 eastbound, according to ISP.

Troopers say that “a small passenger car was originally on Mooresville Road just east of Flight School Road, this portion of the road ends at the interstate. For unknown reasons the vehicle sped through the end of the road, struck a guard rail and a line of trees before going airborne and landing on the eastbound lanes of I-465. A semi-tractor trailer traveling on I-465 struck the driver’s side of the passenger car.”

Rescue crews extracted the car driver but were unable to save his or her life.

The truck driver, Ohio resident Mark Carnes, was not hurt in the crash.

Police say that the investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

I-465 was closed for about three hours for clean up and investigation of the crash.
