Police believe that they have found the body of missing Iowa student

Published:

Authorities say that they have found a body believed to be a missing Iowa college student who many in the trucking industry have been looking for for weeks.

The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office announced this morning that they found a body during their search for 20 year old Mollie Tibbetts, who has been missing since July 18, 2018, according to reporting from CNN. Authorities are still working to officially identify the body. The location where the body was found had not been disclosed at this time.

Police say no further details will be revealed until a 4 p.m. press conference.

Tibbetts was last seen jogging on the evening of July 18 in the town of Brooklyn, Iowa, where she was house-sitting for her boyfriend.

Tibbetts’ disappearance has had many in the trucking community on the lookout for several weeks, in part because of a tip (later discredited by police) that indicated that Tibbetts was spotted with a truck driver at a truck stop in Kearney, Missouri. Later, interest in the case was reignited among the trucking community when police listed a Travel Centers of America truck stop off of I-80 in Brooklyn, Iowa, as a location of interest in the investigation.
