Alabama officials say that a tanker tuck driver lost his life today in a major crash on I-10 near downtown Mobile.

The incident happened in the eastbound lanes on I-10 when a tanker truck hauling an unknown amount of oil was involved in a single vehicle crash near the Virginia Street off-ramp. According to Mobile Fire-Rescue, the truck overturned during the crash, but there is currently no word on why the truck crashed.

After the crash, the truck caught fire, sending massive amounts of black smoke up into the air.
Authorities say that the truck driver did not survive the crash. His identity has not been released.
The Alabama Department of Transportation is assessing the roadway for fire damage.
