City officials in Sugar Land, Texas, have confirmed that a semi truck crashed off of an overpass and landed on top of a passenger vehicle below this afternoon.

The crash happened at about 1:15 p.m. on southbound Highway 59 at University Boulevard.

Though the cause of the crash remains under investigation, early reports indicate that there was a three vehicle crash on the overpass which caused the semi truck to crash off of the overpass and flip onto the roadway below, landing on top of a car.

According to ABC 13, the truck driver was able to get out of the truck after the crash. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. It isn’t clear whether anyone else was injured, but it has been reported that the car driver was able to crawl out of the vehicle.
The incident is expected to cause serious traffic backups as rush hour approaches.
On Tuesday, a similar crash occurred in Los Angeles, California, when a truck crashed off of the I-5 connector onto the roadway below.
