Florida transportation officials have shut down all southbound lanes of I-75 in Lake City for a fatal multi-vehicle crash.
The crash occurred on southbound I-75 near the U.S. Highway 441 Exit around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Ocala.com.
Police say that three semi trucks and a car were involved in a chain reaction crash.
Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Patrick Riordan said, “We had three semis involved, one passenger car and we had one fatality. We have all southbound lanes blocked. At least one of the tractor-trailers came from the northbound side onto the southbound side. There was at least one collision, and possibly more, between the semis and a passenger car.”
The person who died was in one of the semi trucks. The identity of that person has not been released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Southbound I-75 is completely closed as crews will need to assess the pavement for fire damage. Some northbound lanes of I-75 remain open but heavy traffic backups have been reported and transportation officials are urging drivers to find another route.
