Multiple crashes and icy roads shut down Snoqualmie Pass

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) says that I-90 through Snoqualmie Pass is closed in both directions after several serious crashes.

WSDOT shut down both directions of I-90 between North Bend and Ellensburg at 5:45 a.m. on Friday, December 4.

Rain and snow have been reported on Snoqualmie Pass, resulting in slick roads and contributing to multiple crashes.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) confirmed that there were six collisions involving three semi trucks and three cars on westbound I-90 at mile marker 62.

On eastbound I-90 at mile marker 61, WSP tweets that “there is 1 big collision scene. (3 semi and 1 car). There is a 1 confirmed fatality in the EB collision.”

It isn’t yet clear how many people were injured in the crashes.

WSP warns that I-90 is still extremely icy and that there is no estimated time for the interstate to reopen.
