Texas police find dozens of illegal immigrants in refrigerated trailer

Police in Laredo, Texas, say that they discovered more than 40 undocumented immigrants inside of a semi trailer while conducted an enhanced patrol.

The immigrants were discovered just before 11 p.m. on September 20 while officers with the Laredo Police Department were participating in an enforcement effort called “Operation Stonegarden” in conjunction with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, and other local law enforcement agencies.

According to a Laredo Police Department news release, officers approached a semi truck parked on the side of the road at 8410 Tejas Loop. While inspecting the contents of the refrigerated trailer, officers discovered 41 illegal immigrants concealed inside.

Police said that the immigrants were in “relatively good condition” and that no one needed medical attention.

Border Patrol was called in to assist and all 41 people were taken into immigration custody.

The truck driver, 37 year old Hector Hernandez Trejo, was arrested and faces 39 counts of human smuggling and two counts of smuggling persons under the age of 18.
