A semi truck driver has been charged for his role in a crash that claimed four lives on a Georgia interstate last week.
Ohio-based truck driver Mohabe McCoy, 39, has been charged with vehicular homicide, driving too fast for conditions, and making an improper turn, according to reporting from the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
The charges stem from a crash that happened around 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, on northbound I-75 near Exit 218 in Henry County, Georgia.
Police say that McCoy failed to slow for traffic caused by a previous crash and plowed into the rear of a pickup truck, leaving the pickup crushed between his own truck and a semi truck in front of the pickup. The vehicles caught fire after the crash.
All four people in the pickup died in the crash. They were later identified as Georgia residents Jose Ibarra Yanez, 42, Jaime Sanchez, 26, Fermin Sanchez, 20, and Juana Adaliris Ortiz-Martinez, 31.
McCoy suffered non life-threatening injuries and was arrested on Thursday night after he was released from the hospital. He is being held in jail on a $10,000 bond.
The incident shut down northbound I-75 for nearly six hours, resulting in massive traffic backups.
The incident was captured on surveillance camera at a nearby car dealership.
