Trucker found dead in cab during winter storm on Grapevine

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the death of a truck driver found inside the cab of his truck on the Grapevine this morning.

The truck driver was found unresponsive in his truck around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday by a tow truck driver on southbound I-5 near Lebec, California, according to local news outlet Your Central Valley.

Authorities responded and pronounced the truck driver dead at the scene around 9 a.m.

CHP says that the truck driver was not involved in a crash. Police believe he may have pulled off of the interstate to sleep.

The cause of the driver’s death under investigation.

The truck driver’s identity has not been released but he has been described as a male in his 40s.

The Grapevine has been closed since around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday as a heavy winter weather storm dumped a large amount of snow on the area, causing several vehicles to get stuck. SR 58 is also closed for snow. The CHP says that there is currently no estimated time for the roads to reopen.
