Trucker killed after load of steel beams shifts into cab

A truck driver lost his life in Minnesota over the weekend when he braked suddenly and caused a load shift that proved to be fatal.

The incident happened in Oakdale, Minnesota, around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, according to KSTP.

Minnesota State Police say that 26 year old semi truck driver Nelson Masse was hauling a load of steel beams southbound on I-694 when he braked suddenly. As he braked, the load of steel beams shifted and penetrated the cab of the truck.

Masse died at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported.

Police say that road conditions were dry and that Masse was not wearing a seatbelt when the load shift occurred.

The interstate was shut down for about three hours because of the incident.

It isn’t clear at this time why Masse braked suddenly. The Minnesota State Patrol is still investigating this incident.
