Oklahoma police say that a wrong way motorist was to blame for a fatal crash last night on the Turner Turnpike.

The crash happened around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 18 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, near the area where Route 66 and I-44 merge.

Authorities say that an SUV driver was traveling the wrong way on Route 66 and crashed into a FedEx Freight truck.

The SUV driver did not survive the crash.

Witnesses told NewsOn6 that the truck driver managed to jump to safety before his truck caught fire. The truck driver was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.

The crash left the truck burning and partially hanging off an overpass and resulted in lengthy road closures. As of Friday morning, one lane of eastbound I-44 remained closed for cleanup.

The crash remains under investigation.
